About this vintage design furniture
The iconic model 78 dining chair was designed in 1954 by Niels O. Møller for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik. The model is with it´s organically-shapes and pieces of wood that "melt" into each other evidence of what great designers and brilliant cabinetmakers could achieve in Danish design and craftsmanship during this period. The frames of the chairs have been carefully overlooked and refinished by our cabinetmaker. The chairs will be reupholstered with fabric of your choice from Kvadrat or for additional price leather of your choice so you get the chairs you wish for when they arrive at your doorstep. We have more model 78 in storage så feel free to ask if we have the number of chairs you are looking for. Be aware that a Cites export permit is needed for legal international trade with all types of rosewood - for export out of the EU a Cites permit with the buyers name is there for needed. We will of course do the needed Cites paperwork for you to get the chairs you wish for. Born in Århus in 1920, the work of Danish designer Niels Otto Møller earned a reputation for consistent excellence in quality and workmanship. Møller’s dedication to his craft stemmed from his cabinetmaking apprenticeship, completed in 1939, which was followed by further study at the Århus School of Design. In 1944, Møller founded his own furniture production company, JL Møllers Møbelfabrik, in a tiny workshop in the center of his hometown. While overseeing traditional furniture production in his factory, Møller continued to design. The No. 1 Chair (1946) was the first result. For the rest of his life, Møller’s furniture designs would be produced by his own company. Møller’s chairs, such as the sculptural No. 55 and No. 71 (both 1951), strongly represent, through the choice of materials and the soft curves, the Scandinavian postwar vision of practical yet well-made design.
