About this vintage design furniture
The Kyoto coffee table is a coffee table designed by Gianfranco Frattini, was produced by cabinet maker Pierluigi Ghianda and was distributed by Knoll International. The table has only been produced in very small numbers during the 70s so this table is a rarity indeed. As the name refers to, Gianfranco Frattini was inspired by Japanese design when designing this table. The frame is build up from maple wood and the horizontal and vertical beams provide a graphic grid. The beams can be disassembled and can be rearranged. The feet are seamlessly integrated in the frame and have a rounded shape. The thick glass plate doesn’t rest on the wooden frame but on 4 leather upholstered brown discs placed on top of the frame and that form an intermediary connection between glass top and wood frame. The result is stunning and this table will look good in just about any modernist, brutalist and contemporary interior. The provenance of this table is traceable through Il Design in Italia: Dell’Arredamento Domestico, Gramigna and Biondi, pg. 209 Repertorio 1950-1980, Gramigna, pg. 402. The table is in excellent condition with only very minor wear visible
