About this vintage design furniture
An original pyramid table designed by Wim Rietveld for Ahrend de Cirkel, the Netherlands 1960s. The table is the largest version of the range of Pyramid tables Rietveld designed. The table features a V-shaped folded steel structure in light grey. The table is complete with the original formica top, but he table is offered here with a thick solid teak wooden top to create a larger dining table or desk. For those who prefer the original and industrial version we can put back and send pictures of the original top. The design was roughly inspired by the Compass table by Jean Prouve. Industrial design was designed to be cheap and practical like this table, which stands out in its functionality. The table was rewarded with the Signe d’Or in 1960, This piece has visible traces of use and has an imprinted trademark of Ahrend de Cirkel on every leg of the frame. Wim Rietveld (Netherlands, 1924 - 1985) was the youngest son of the pioneering architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld - one of the principal members of the Dutch artistic movement, De Stijl. Literature: van Hinte, Ed, (1996) Wim Rietveld, industrieel ontwerper, Rotterdam ’010’ p 82, 83.
