About this vintage design furniture
This is a beautiful ball lamp, or better known as the Cocoon pendant lamp by Achille Castiglioni for Flos. The main feature of this iconic pendant lamp is the material used to make it. The frame is metal covered with Cocoon spray-on plastic. In the United States after World War II, this new type of fiberglass with a reinforced plastic coating, called Cocoon, was invented to protect disarmed warships. This innovative material was imported to Italy by Arturo Eisenkeil, a small manufacturer from Merano, who used this resin to make lampshades and then marketed it.
