Each drawer has round brass handles, and the drawers sit in the middle of the unit with closet doors on either side. Each closet door has matching handles, and the unit sits on oak legs. The top of the cabinet has a raised back typical of the Art Deco style and a high front. The sideboard is finished with side panels, making it an elegant piece of furniture. Here are some more details about the fabric and history of this sideboard. What makes this item valuable is the inclusion of Coromandel wood in the composition of the item. This wood is called Coromandel, Calamander or Kalu-Medhiriya. It has been registered with the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) as extinct or at least available in such small quantities that it is on the verge of extinction. The Amsterdam School of Design (1910 - 1930) is unique in the Netherlands with its expressive and rich forms. The movement began with architecture and included designs for furniture, lamps, clocks, ceramics and textiles. Two variants of the Amsterdam School emerged: the more expressive style with exuberant forms, deep, contrasting colors and distinct contour lines, and the cleaner, geometric style influenced by the Wendingen magazine, the platform of the Amsterdam School.Famous furniture designers of the time included Harry Dreesen and Louis Deen, Michel de Klerk, Piet Kramer and Hildo Knop, who worked extensively in the Amsterdam School style. The movement also inspired companies like Metz and Co. Under the influence of these designers, furniture was designed to make a statement. Large in size, eccentric in design, they give an air of exclusivity and wealth.
