Vintage Leucos Melaina pendant lamp by Renato Toso, Italy

Leucos Melaina pendant lamp. Made of white and clear hand blown Murano glass. Design: Renato Toso in 1968. Produced in Italy Materials: Hand blown crystal Murano glass conical disc lampshade. White and clear glass on the outside, white on the inside. Aluminium, chromed iron and brass parts. Steel cable. Bakelite E27 socket. Cord Length: 80 cm / 31.49’’ Height: 20 cm / 14.17” Width: ∅ 65 cm / 25.5” Electricity: 1 bulb E27, 1 x 75 watt maximum, 110/220 volt.
Any type of light bulb with an E27 screw base can be used. For this lamp preferable a globe light bulb and/or a silver cup/bowl light bulb. Period: 1960s, 1970s, 1980s – Mid-Century Modern. It was also made as a floor lamp with the lampshade turned around as a chalice on chrome rods with a round cast iron base. The Leucos Melania pendant lamp was designed by Renato Toso in 1968. The Leucos company was founded in 1962 in Scorzè in the outskirts of Venice. Later they moved to the neighborhood of Salzano, some 25 kilometers from the legendary city. Leucos soon became an important producer in glass decorative lighting. Designers that worked for Leucos were and are amongst others: Carlo Nason, Roberto Pamio, Eva Zeisel, Mauro Marzollo, Paolo Crepax. Jorge Pensi, Roberto Paoli, the Rockwell Group.
