Mid century Sommerso Murano glass ashtray, Italy 1960s

Mid-century modern Murano sommerso glass bowl (Italy, 1960s). Made of thick blue, red and transparent glass. Extremely decorative. Perfectly works as a small bowl, a vide poche, an ashtray or just as a decorative item. Can be used as a display piece on any table. Width: 12.5 cm; depth: 12 cm; height: 4 cm. Excellent vintage condition. "Sommerso" (Italian for ''submerged'') is a technique developed in Murano in the 1930s which became very popular in the 1950s-70s. The result is a glass with contrasting colours that is commonly cased by a clear layer. Reference : 265293
