About this vintage design furniture
Loop armchair by Willy Guhl for the Swiss company Eternit. Their collaboration began in the early 50's with a desire on the part of the Swiss firm to create garden furniture from their raw material, Eternit. This fibrocement used to manufacture roofing and pipes is resistant to traction, breakage and climatic variations, making it a perfect base for the Swiss designer, working in an era where innovation is a pillar in the reflections of designers. He will succeed in this challenge, once again pushing the limits of design (as he did with his scobalit shell chair). However, the production of this range had to stop in the 80's because of the presence of asbestos in the fibrocement which will be prohibited 17 years later. The loop is again edited by Eternit with some structural changes such as the addition of two slots on the backrest to strengthen the structure and the removal of asbestos in its composition. Its structure is obtained by molding in a wooden mold in which we pour directly the fiber cement that by its physical properties will solidify forming a chair made of a single ribbon. In good condition, presence of chips. Bibliography: Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, Willy Guhl thinking with your hands , Lars Müller Publishers, 2023. Page 143-149.
