About this vintage design furniture
Beautiful and unique handmade glazed ceramic salt shaker in the shape of a cabbage leaf by Bordallo Pinheiro.
The lid is missing some enamel, otherwise in excellent condition.
These pieces, famous in the high society of the 60's, become unique thanks to the fact that none of them is identical to the other as they are handmade.
In the 1960s, a complete set of choux dishes was characteristic of a high society home. Many pieces were highly sought-after, including Bordallo Pinheiro's iconic choux range.
The Portuguese ceramics studio Bordallo Pinheiro was founded in 1884. Brothers Raphael and Feliciano Bordallo Pinheiro founded the company, and many of today's pieces are still made to Raphael's designs. In just 21 years, Bordallo Pinheiro's bold, artistic ceramics have gained international renown. Rafael was inspired by the flora and fauna of his native Caldas, as well as by Renaissance ideas and the Art Nouveau and Naturalism movements.
We also have the matching tureen sold separately (see last two images).
