When young leaves, such as magnolia leaves, are pressed against unglazed ceramics, the veins of the leaves emerge as dark lines, outlining mountains. Thus, with just a few leaves, an entire forest can be represented. Arita porcelain or Imari porcelain is the Western name for porcelain products made in the town of Arita. It has its origins in the 17th century, since a Korean craftsman discovered a kaolin deposit in the Arita region in 1616.
