In this way the development of a new ceramic industry in Europe began. King Louis XVI issued an edict granting the city of Limôges exclusive permission to produce porcelain for the kingdom of France. Today, each of their designs is unique and designed by true artists. Limôges porcelain is manufactured in around twenty factories, all located in the Haute-Vienne department. Recognizing authentic Limôges porcelain is very simple: All objects from the French house bear the seal of their manufacturer. Normally stamped in black or blue, this mark can give us very precise clues to date the piece. A large amount of Limôges porcelain was made in white, and was decorated later.
