Vintage "Plass Media" table lamp in plastic and glass for Foscarini, Italy

Exceptional table lamp from the renowned Italian firm Foscarini. The name of the model, Plass Media, refers to the union of plastic and glass, because although it is made of rotationally moulded polycarbonate, it has the irregularities typical of hand-made glass. Its sculptural form is inspired by the frosted glass beads of the Venetian tradition (the conterie). The surface has a game of recesses and protrusions that simulate a kind of grooves and create a kaleidoscopic lighting effect in the room. The base is made of varnished steel and the transparent cable makes it very discreet. Foscarini Founded in Murano (Venice), a small island in the Venetian lagoon, in 1981, Foscarini is an Italian designer lamp firm that is now famous throughout the world. The ties with the region are evident even in the name, a tribute to the Venetian noble family of the same name, and are embodied in the production of crystal lamps, initially designed for contract use, but soon joined by decorative lamps, which quickly became the company's core business. In 1988, Foscarini was acquired by Carlo Urbinati and Alessandro Vecchiato, the architects of its success by recruiting Italian and international designers. In its more than thirty-five years of history, the Venetian house has received two Compasso d'Oro awards, in 2001 and 2014. Today it is present in more than eighty-eight countries.
