In their works, artists generally did not seek to express feelings or emotions, but rather to create objects of attractive, balanced design that reflected the times and society in which they lived. Russian ballets played a key role in the development of this movement, as their stagings had a major influence on fashion and decorative design. Authors such as Demetre Chiparus and Paul Philippe represented this explosion of color and expressivity, inspired above all by the works of Sergei Diaghilev, Vaslav Nijisky and Ida Rubinstein.
