His best-known works were produced by Dansk Design, an American manufacturer, in the 1950s and 1960s.
Quisgaard's developed artistic talent led him to work in wood, metal, ceramics and glass. Thus, at just 15, he saw his set of hand-forged cutlery exhibited at the Charlottenborg Museum in Copenhagen.
Trained in sculpture by his father, Harald Quistgaard, he went on to study drawing and silversmithing to become a sculptural designer. His apprenticeship was interrupted by the Second World War, during which he was an active member of the Danish resistance movement.
