Cees BRAAKMAN

An admirer of Charles & Ray Eames' work for Herman Miller, he drew inspiration from the techniques and materials used to design original pieces. He left his mark on the history of Dutch design with legendary pieces such as the SM05 steel wire chair (1958), the S33 desk (1958) and the TM05 sideboard (1950s). Biography Cees Braakman was born in the Netherlands in 1917. He began his design career at an early age, working for the publisher UMS Pastoe at just 17. He then moved to the United States to deepen his knowledge of design. He discovered the Eames couple's work for Herman Miller and was automatically seduced. Once back in his homeland, he decided to experiment with a new material: plywood. His wish was to design furniture that met functional needs while being aesthetically pleasing. His collection of modular cabinets is a perfect example. Braakman left his mark on Dutch design history with the geometric shapes and innovative technology of his creations.
